Twelve days out: what News24's debut means for Australian media buyers

The Sky News Australia rebrand lands on 27 July, when News24 debuts as News Corp's "globally ambitious" multi-platform news brand. New Foxtel channels, a same-day site and app launch, and a London bureau — here's the buy-side read.

On 27 July, Sky News Australia's 30-year-old brand disappears. In its place: News24 — a name announced in February at the opening of the network's Surry Hills broadcast centre, with a logo drawn from the News Corp wordmark, itself based on Rupert Murdoch's handwriting.

What changes on air: Foxtel and BINGE remain the premium homes for the News24-produced family — News24 on Foxtel channel 600, News24 Weather continuing on 601, and a new News24 World launching on channel 603 focused on global political news, press conferences and live events. FOX SPORTS News stays on 500, produced by News24 for the Foxtel Group. The same day, News24.com.au and the News24 Australia app go live.

The global tell: a London bureau opens in November in the News UK building at London Bridge, with Asia correspondent Staś Butler stepping up as Senior Europe Correspondent — joining existing posts in Washington D.C., Taiwan and Wellington. The bureau build-out is the clearest signal News Corp wants News24 sold as a global digital news product, not a subscription-TV channel with a website.

Why Australian media buyers should care: a rebrand of this scale resets the sales story — fresh digital inventory across the site and app at launch, a Foxtel channel shuffle, and cross-platform packages likely pitched off the multi-platform positioning. Buyers holding existing Sky News Australia commitments should confirm now how current deals map to the new channel numbers and digital properties, and ask early about launch sponsorships, which tend to be priced before the audience data exists.
