Two of the industry's best-known data and technology agency brands are being retired. Kinesso and Annalect staff were called into simultaneous meetings and told the agencies will be rolled into Omnicom Media, AdNews reports, the latest step in the brand consolidation that has followed Omnicom's takeover of IPG.
Kinesso, built inside IPG, and Annalect, Omnicom's long-standing data arm, are being dissolved as brands, with staff told to update their email signatures to Omnicom Media, according to insiders who spoke to AdNews, which broke the story this morning.
"Both Kinesso and Annalect had similar but separate meetings at the same exact time," one staff member told AdNews. "The news was just that both agencies will be sunset and rolled into Omnicom Media. No other changes announced." No local redundancies have been reported, and in Australia the capabilities previously operating under those brands are being folded into Omnicom Media's structure.
The retirements are part of a global simplification of Omnicom Media's portfolio following the IPG takeover, finalised in November last year, which created the world's biggest advertising group with 100,000 people and expected full-year revenue of US$25.6 billion. The stated aim is a more integrated model giving clients connected access to media, data, technology, commerce and analytics.
The harder edge sits in the cost program. Omnicom is targeting US$1.5 billion in savings from the IPG merger, with US$900 million planned this year and roughly US$650 million of that from labour costs, according to the company's December quarter presentation. One insider told AdNews that Omnicom has also begun transferring engineering and technical teams from Kinesso, Acxiom, Annalect and Flywheel to an outside technology services provider, describing the process as feeling "less like a strategic transformation and more like a workforce transfer designed to move people off Omnicom's books". SHWAY has not independently verified that claim, and it reflects the view of AdNews's unnamed source.
Why it matters for Australian marketers: If your media, data or analytics contract names Kinesso or Annalect, the entity and the people behind it are changing, and that is the moment to re-examine service levels, data ownership and key personnel clauses. More broadly, holding-company consolidation tends to concentrate adtech decision-making offshore, which can mean slower local support but also simpler single-contract access. With Omnicom Media Australia also absorbing Initiative's leadership changes this month, clients of the merged group should expect more restructuring announcements before the cost program lands.
